CFO Interview Series: A Conversation with Adam Kinder, Assistant Superintendent, Eastern Hancock Series Adam Kinder brings a distinctly different lens to school finance leadership. Before entering education, Adam spent seven years in banking, working in accounting and finance until a corporate acquisition prompted him to rethink his path. What began as an unexpected career move into schools turned into a decade-long journey learning the intricacies of public education finance from the inside. Today, Adam serves as Assistant Superintendent at Eastern Hancock Schools, a district of approximately 1,200 students and 180 employees. In a smaller district, the role is broad and deeply operational — overseeing transportation, food service, facilities, IT, and finance — with a strong emphasis on leadership, people, and systems rather than day-to-day bookkeeping. Adam’s perspective blends fiscal discipline from banking with a practical, mission-driven approach to education. He’s realistic about what a smaller district can and can’t afford, but equally clear-eyed about the advantages of agility — the ability to move quickly, pilot ideas, and innovate in ways larger systems often cannot. ...
